1.) HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year to everyone! I hope the last year was great and the next year is better.
The new year is always a good time to look at the big moments of the past year and your hopes for the next year. If I had to label a most important event of the last year, it was definitely getting into medical school. I try to avoid being too focused on academics - a trap I think too many premeds fall into - but the fact is that I worked incredibly hard for the acceptance, and if I hadn't gotten it I wouldn't be able to follow my dreams. So I'll definitely be doing a cheers and draining a shot for that tonight. Other big things are becoming ever closer to my girlfriend, graduating from college, and settling into a post-grad lifestyle.
For the coming year, I suspect one of the biggest events will be moving to a new location and starting medical school. One of the biggest events? Yeah, that looms like Mount Everest on the horizon. I am so excited, though.
How about you? What were the big events of your last year, and what does the next year have in store for you?
2.) Merry Christmas!
Christmas was Sunday, making it fair game for this week's reflections. I got a few items that I'm excited to use or play with and also write about. Some are good books or tools for pre-med/med students, and a few others are little items that a paleo eater might find useful or interesting.
How about you, did you get anything worth telling a fellow paleo/pre-med about?
3.) Drew Brees Breaks Single Season Passing Record
As I have said, I'm a big football fan. One of my favorite quarterbacks has to be Drew Brees. The guy is the man. You ever see the video of him doing the "300" Spartan pump up with his team before a game? Or how about the video of him taking over a night club in New Orleans after they won the Super Bowl?
I also just love the way he throws the damn ball.
Anyway, there is some contention over whether the record was more meaningful when Brees set it or when Marino set it, because of rule changes and etc. These are hard things to balance, and honestly I think you just have to accept that both of them accomplished astounding feats. By the way, I once was at a urinal next to Dan Marino, and I didn't even know it, because you never check out the guy at the urinal next to you. My dad was in line for the bathroom and told me after the fact. Damn!
I also think people need to stop being upset about the Saints throwing and thereby running up the score at the end of the game. They had a chance to break a record that stood for almost 30 years. Come on, the guys on both sides of the ball are pros; who cares? I bet any other team would have done it too.
4.) Worst and Best Plays of 2011
Always fun to review these. I'd be lying if I said the Worst plays weren't my favorite. Besides, I can't actually find the Best Plays online, although I did catch them on SportsCenter this morning.
5.) Party Tonight!
Party yourself stupid tonight! Have fun!
