1.) Diet and Alzheimer's - When the Sugar Hits Your Brain
This was an interesting article that talks about the effect of Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) on our brains. The author presents a fascinating study from Neurology that presents a very strong correlation between endogenous AGEs and a person's mental decline. Personally I think AGEs somewhat frightening and are a really interesting topic that I am eager to start educating myself about.
This article is well worth a read if you're at all interested in AGEs, Alzheimer's, nutrition, or mental decline.
2.) Playoffs Making Me Look Stupid
No sooner had I declared the Saints to be my Super Bowl prediction than they lost. No sooner had I declared Green Bay to be the frontrunners... than they also lost; as a side note, I cannot believe how many times they put the ball on the ground, whether through drops or fumbles.
Fortunately, I have learned my lesson and will not say anything about the potential outcomes for the rest of this year's playoffs, except that I am rooting against the Patriots. At this point, my support goes towards the Giants, as a New Yorker myself, but this is not a prediction.
3.) Raiders Coaching Search
The Raiders coaching search has taken some interesting twists and turns. I have to admit, the more I think about it the more I support the firing of Hue Jackson. Well... at least I did. Until McKenzie started interviewing candidates such as Marty Morhinweg. What??? He is 5-27 as a head coach. Dom Capers is an even more disturbing choice, as his record of losing as a head coach (48-80) is long enough to be well proven. Yes, he currently coaches for the Packers, an excellent team... but he is the defensive coordinator, and they had one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
Anyway, I still have high hopes for McKenzie as a GM, but I don't like the way this list of candidates is turning.
4.) MoneyballI actually saw this movie a week ago with my girlfriend. It was a very good movie, and I recommend it to anyone. I think it's really interesting to consider what happens when you take a scientific approach to baseball. I actually knew about the real life story from an article I read several years ago, but it was cool seeing the dramatization.
On another note, I cannot believe Jonah Hill is transitioning into being a real actor. Lately he has been getting in pretty good shape, and now he is nominated for a Golden Globe? Pretty cool.

Agree with you on Jonah Hill. Remembering his raunchy movies like Grandma's Boy, Knocked Up, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Funny People, and Get Him to the Greek, and seeing him play in Moneyball was very different, but I liked it. Didn't think I was going to, but he was very good in the movie. Doing a role like this just opened so many doors for him. Now he is a universal actor. Think about Zach Galifianakis, hilarious actor, but hes a typecast. It will be hard to get out of that type of character in future roles. He will always be, the Hangover guy. Good to hear Jonah Hill was able to branch out from his norm with all his previous roles.
